MOROCCO PICS ARE IN!!!!

There are a lot of cats in Marrakech, by a lot I mean a shit ton. They were everywhere, kind of like stray dogs in Mexico City, here there are stray cats, even kittens. They would just roam around and chill. It was crazy.

In Marrakech (like most of the world), they are really into soccer. They follow European football very closely and there are some die hard fans, although they have never seen their team play. This is a tagging for Roma, although most people followed Barcelona or Real Madrid. I personally dig Atletíco de Madrid, but they never win.

There was a group of kids skating in this square, and this is a post on the square. It's funny skater kids look the same everywhere. I was just in Sevilla, where thay had a mini skate park and those kids could easily be in LA, PB, or anywhere really.

This is the standard vehicle of Morocco. Most people ride these motorized bicycles, instead of cars of scooters. You can try to just manually pedal, but they seem to be quite heavy. Dig the Nike swoosh.

This is Essouira. It's on the coast about three hours away from Marrakech. We really wanted to go down on the beach but it was mostly rocks. So we wandered off the map we had and found a spot where there was sand. In the back there is a sick fort they have going on. Oh!! and while we were sitting down there, this crackhead came up to us asking for something (probably crack), so we told to go away. We peaced out shortly thereafter.

EDIT: the shitty quality of these photos is that i shot with disposables since my slr had not arrived yet. enjoy!

Too Long...

I just realized I had not written since our pal, Barry Obama won the Presidential election. That was one of those days that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Like "where were you when Obama became President??" Also, Blogger is telling me Obama is spelled incorrectly, I'm sure that will change soon. haa

So just got back from Valencia with the school, which was a fun experience. They have some of the coolest modern architecture I have ever seen. Since I do not have a dig. cam im stealing from google to show you guys what I'm talking about. The pic above is of a science museum and an IMAX like the one in balboa park!, theres an aquarium in the back you can barely see. We watched this awesome underwater movie about corals in the IMAX. Good food, the people were nice, and oh! I went to see Valencia vs. Portugalete(?) shitty game, but an interesting experience nonetheless. The stadium was more than half empty, and at least a third of all the men there smoked cigars.

But the main reason I was prompted to write again was our good friend, music. This time, more specifically its Q-Tip. Wow, the Tribe Called Quest man, dropped a solo album sometime last week, and wow. Such a good, Tribe vibe,(NORAH JONES features on a song! What?!) Srsly go out and buy/download/steal/borrow Q's new album!
song that is on constant repeat, and can't remember where I found it:

38 Farenheit

So back in Madrid, and it is ridiculously cold. As a San Diegan, these temperatures are unheard of: the high today is 47, the low 40. Awesome. Im in bed, as you can see above, and wearing three layers of pants and theres like eight blankets in the bed.
A Morocco post is soon to come.

Seems like it's crunch time back home, in terms of the election. Obama? McCain?? who's it gonna be?? Hopefully the former. I said I would stay here if he lost, but with this cold, San Diego sounds bomb even if its in a country whose possible vice president is...in not gonna bash Palin. You can come up with something better.

anywayzzzzzz. its cold. Whoomp there it is!

New Musique

So they've been around for awhile, yeah yeah. But this song is still fresh and the remix is growing on me every time I hear it. Love me some crunchy bass lines. Apparently they're playing San Diego's own FM949 anniversary show with another of my favs: TV on the Radio. But like typical SD-fashion, its a 21+ show.

Not to mention...

I was in Barcelona for the past six days. Wow. That city reminds me of San Diego sooo much, you got good beaches, cool people, awesome views. But it doesn't feel like Spain, it's as if we went to a different country. Went to soo many things/museums. But two places stick out, more than the rest.
1. Picasso Museum:
Wow. this man is a genius, and i don't even know art, but i get it now. They had some old sketches, old paintings, newer ones, sculpture, pottery...

2. La Champanieria:
Big props to my cuz Roberto on this one. That man has excellent taste in food. He rec'd this place where they serve bocadillos (raza: lea tortas) or sandwiches. But these had such a wide variety of flavors all in one sandwich and they only had champagne for drink. Oh and standing room only and the place was more tightly packed than a fat girl trying to fit into a size 1. oh and there was no sign outside.

ps. I also lost my camera, so new photos will have to wait. I will either post old ones or spoil you with masterpieces as the one above.

I'm Back!!

Wow, its been awhile. So let's see, where to start...oh!!
COACHELLA dates announced! april 17-19. It seemed like last year a lot of people were 'over' Coachella, like it's too mainstream now, yada yada yada...I don't care, it's always been fun. And sure to be awesome this year as well. So see you there!

and this Justice Documentary preview, looks pretty cool. Wonder which one is better, Soulwax or Justice. Its a war of the documentaries:

So last night...

Wow. So it all starts with the yellow "MTV Spain" book that was in my room when I got here, maybe some hip SMU student left it for anyone else to stumble upon. So naturally I look up "Clubbing" in the Madrid section. The book recommends "Nature (Mid-Day)" by saying, "Nature is absolutely worth a visit, especially on Thursdays...The metallic decor and low, red lighting make it seem like Han Solo might show up later on. Little TV's show Japanese anime." This description is perfect. PERFECT.
If you ever come to madrid, on a thursday, come here.
http://www.myspace.com/naturemadrid

We showed up it was 1230-1ish. The place was empty but the music, oh my the music. Soo bomb, this DJ was playin nothing but the best electro you've never heard, ON VINYL. HIS WHOLE SET.

So later, people showed up and the place was packed, by then this DJ:
http://www.myspace.com/cajuan

starts his set with the banger of the moment, that you, dear reader, heard about here on El Eskeleto, "Kids" MGMT (Soulwax remix). Just obliterated the place. The house was about to burn down. He goes on to play Daft Punk Digitalism Justice Crookers Michael Jackson it was like he was playing off my computer, but my favorite song was the DJ SkeetSkeet remix of "Want you Back"-Jackson 5, that just killed the place. What are the chances of hearing a song from a LA DJ remixing a 30year old song, at a club in Madrid played by a random/bossa German DJ? Slim. To none.

oh, I should give a shout out to Skeetskeet, and his bossa blog: www.eatskeet.com
I'll take the cam. next thursday so you can see Nature in all its glory.

When My Camera Gets Here

I'm going to take pictures of Madrid's dogs. There are some of the most original dogs I have ever seen in my life. And they are all uber-obedient, and relate to their owners. They are mostly leash-less, but under control. I wish I had a good example to show you. soon enough.

What's up America??

Seriously. What is going on over there in the USA?? I feel like these are super important times in the country and I'm out of it. One, well, I'm in a foreign country for the next 3 months, but also in terms of an economic perspective, I don't get it. How can the government and the banks themselves allow such big banks to just lose it. There was talk of AIG going under. The fact that there was talk about this, says how dire the situation is. This economic situation seems to have put the presidential debates on a second tier.

We have become so cynical over the last eight years thanks to all these photo op's and just being lied to by the current administration, that I think they might of controlled this economic situation to put people's attention away from the election and in the end help keep the Republicans in power. Or Bush just wants whoever gets his presidency to have to deal with the mess he left. That would make Bush look not as bad as he actually was. At least in the history books. But seriously, name a worse President other than Nixon...

That was my rant. I leave you with questions and photos.

Are the Padres getting any better? How was Street Scene? Is Chappele's Show back on? LOST? Remember o-town? When Pat&Oscar's was just Oscar's?? what about ska-punk??

Lucky You, Es Domingo.

Sooooo it's finally here...the Soulwax remix of Kids-MGMT. This sounds like it still needs a bit of work, but its still fire. This is not an official release, but you get a good idea of what's in store.

http://www.zshare.net/download/1860507700f8292a/

Also!! New Kanye track?!! Sounds nothing like he's ever done, and also sounds unfinished. Interesting new direction for Mr. West, I'm not sure i buy it yet. Check it for yourself:
http://welikeitindie.com/music/kanye.mp3

And a little update of my life: Last night was Noche en Blanco here in Madrid, which means they close off the streets and people just walk around, go see art exhibits/installations. There was going to be a guy who was going to walk on a tightrope from building to building, and we waited for 40 mins and it ended up getting cancelled because there was too much wind... Bummer.
Then we just roamed Gran Via and taught Spaniards the high five variations.

A Few Things..

I'm just going to start writing...The first thing I can't seem to get out of my head are how lame the kids from SMU that are at our program are. OK, I'll explain. So the school where I'm at is both USD and SMU students. Its about a 75-25 ratio with USD as the majority. They sit in the front of all the classes, shirts tucked in for dinner, hair is combed and parted. I mean, come on. Maybe I'm just too California or whatever...Anywayyyy

So there's a Che Guevara movie coming out, which apparently is very good, there's posters for it all over Madrid. Its directed by Steve Soderbergh(spelling?) and I want to see it badly.

I woke up today to the sounds of one of the neighbors blasting (literally.) rancheras. I thought i was in TJ for a sec, then spent the day trying to figure out how to and when to go to Morocco. I think I'm gonna go to Marrakesh, the other cities seem like they've been Westernized a bit too much already. So after that I cruised to Parque Eva Peron, had some strawberry ice cream (Cold Stone wassup??!!), watched some old people/dogs walk around. Then headed over to Tribunal which is like Hipster-town, Madrid. It was awesome they were all in this little plaza chillin, I forgot my camera today. But I will def go back and shoot some pics.

And pictures of the best people around; Lacoste car; Patterns; Vic (my roomate) sitting in the street while filming some stuff for a movie you will all soon see. There will be more.

Copenhagen PART 1

So I'm coming over to study in Madrid for the next 5 months and my mom had the brilliant idea to have a short trip before school started... I thought "Not really necessary but might be interesting." Then she tells me we're going to Copenhagen. I thought "Bossa."

MADRID-Part 1

Today is the first day in Madrid for what will be an interesting, fun, different 4 months, and already they are off to the best start.
Took a lil' stop into H&M, picked up a sicky leather jacket a-la Justice. Should come in handy for winter...but that wasn't the best part. As I'm leaving the store, I hear my favorite Weezy song from the new album
go listen to it:

Buying Into Buzz...

We always hear of "buzz bands", those that are constantly blogged about or Pitchfork is willing to grant them a 7.3 for an album, or they're in the "up and coming" sections of your favorite mags.

Well Hercules and Love Affair was one of these bands and damn do they deserve the buzz! The entire album is excellent. It's like a "discoier" LCD soundsystem and you need to get the album.

My fav track right here: "blind"

Next Epic Track??

Soulwax has finally remixed MGMT's "Kids" and thanks to Erol Alkan we can get a lil preview of the track. Even though the quality is not excellent it already sounds better than Justice's remix of Electric Feel. Enjoy:

Videos...

Recently, I've seen two very impressive, visually stimulating videos. I love when artists actually put enough effort in the video as they do in the music itself. (some should put more into the music, but thats another story.) Here are two recent videos, one is Radiohead, of course. The second is just an excuse for some shoe marketing, but a cool vid nonetheless.

Best Batman Yet??

Apparently these are the first five minutes of the new Batman movie. As if you didn't want to see it already...

Classic vs. Classic

He is named after the whale

Moby completely stole the Electric Daisy Carnival in LA last night. Everyone was there to see Benassi or whoever but Moby...Moby completely blew everyone out of the water. Unfortunately, I have not found a video that gives that genius any justice. So either look it up yourself or just take my word for it..

This was also the second time I saw Blake Miller. And damn he can tear it up..sneak peek:

Street Scene is back!! (apparently...)

So while I was out, the line-up for this year's Street Scene was announced. To San Diegans, this is OUR music festival event of the year. Well it was, then it moved away from downtown, but this year (Finally!) is going to be held Downtown again. Beck headlines, which is ya cool, should be fun. But Justice! Hot Chip! The Hives! TV on the Radio! freakin MGMT or whatever they're called... Great range in line-up.

Dig Justice's little D.A.N.C.E. (Live Version):

While I was out

I was away for the last 3 weeks..and I missed Tha Carter III drop. But now I'm back and checking it out. I am still undecided as the record as a whole, there are definitely some pure fire verses on this album. Jay's verse on "Mr. Carter" is a standout, but Weezy is all over the place on "Phone Home". Dig the last verse:
"They dont make em like me no more/ matter of fact they never made em like me before/im rare like mr clean with hair"

Right now "Phone Home" is the favorite but the whole album is catchy really...

Here's another goodie from Clipse, don't know too much about them honestly except that this track has been on repeat for a while.

Two recent jams

These are two songs that have been on repeat today, and are definitely pure fire. The first I heard from the roundtable knights' mix a while back and it was the outstanding track on that mix. And the second is diplo edit of switch remix of the mystery jets song. It seems like anything diplo touches is gold...awesome coachella set by the guy btw.

The First of Many

This is the first of hopefully many posts on this blog where I will discuss music, culture, some aspects of my life, and any cool stuff out there.

So I'm starting things off with an album that I had been wanting to get for the past year, but for some reason or other did not. I finally got UGK's last release on Thursday, and may I say that it is incredible. Straight south/gangsta/ classic cruisin' music. Led by what was my top two songs of '07:
